Advice on aggressive dog

A lot of owners have aggressive dogs and they think that's natural. It's not. If the dog constantly barks on people eventually it might bite. It takes only a second of negligence and you will be in a very unpleasant position, apologizing to the passerby or even worse facing a charge. If your dog is behaving like that you should take some steps to reduce dog's aggressive behavior towards people :

* When your dog starts to bark on people, give him the "NO" command and rapidly pull the leash (of course not to hurt the dog just to take him out of balance). If it stops barking give him a treat (reward). Eventually the dog will understand that he doesn't protect you with his barking and that it should not bark on people.

* Check your attitude when you walk with your dog. Are feeling tensed? Frightened? Dogs feel your emotions and your attitude reflects on their attitude. Always be relaxed when you have a walk with your dog, not just because of your dog, because of yourself!

* Let him know who is the Alpha (boss) in your "pack" (human pack). Walk him beside or behind you when he is on leash. Eat before him, not with him or after him. Feed him in a scheduled time. Avoid feelings like nervousness, anxiety etc. when you are around your dog.

* You know the saying " You can't teach an old dog new tricks", but don't give up. We are talking about some basic things that every dog should know. From what I've read some dog trainers start training dogs when they are two years old (Dick Maller, Jeffrey Feinman).

Learn how to perform CPR on a dog in 3 steps

CPR ( cardiopulmonary resuscitation) is an emergency procedure performed manually on a victim that does not breed ( usually having a cardiac arrest ). There are three steps to perform CPR on a dog:

1 - Lay the dog on either side (right side is preferable if it is possible). Remove any foreign objects from their body ( clothes, collars etc.), anything that can block air (oxygen) supply. Close his mouth, stretch his neck, put your mouth on his nose and start blowing air in his nose until his chest starts to expand. As you can see unlike human CPR, dog CPR is usually performed through victims nose.
2 - Remove your hand and let the dog exhale naturally. Immediately redo the first step 1 - 20 times in one minute until the dog starts to breath on his own.
3 - Check the heart beat every 15 seconds. If the heart stops beating, you must use heart massage along with CPR. Request veterinary help immediately!

BEAGLE

The Beagle is small to medium-size breed of dog coming from Great Britain. They belong to the group of hound dogs. Beagles have excellent developed scenting ability and because of their playful nature, they are among the most popular dog breeds.

Characteristics

The Beagle is strong and muscular, although it doesn't appear so. Their head is middle-sized and they have big eyes. Beagles have strong and flexible neck so they can detect scent easily. They have well developed muscular back legs. Their hair is short, dense and weather resistant. Beagles can occur in various colors, but the tricolor appearance is most common (white with brown and black). Their scenting ability is in the top of dog breeds. They weigh around  20 - 25 lb ( 9 - 11 kg) and have height of around 33 - 41 cm ( 13 - 16 inches) although there is one more class od beagles under 13 inches which is not recognized by The Kennel Club. The beagle is generally a healthy dog with no health issues. Beagles are very energetic, resistant, intelligent, fearless and dignified dogs. They are very good with kids and unlike other dogs who usually connect with only one family member, they are connected with everyone in the family. Their life span is around 12 - 15 years.

History

The origin of the word Beagle is uncertain, although the word beag in Gaelic means little, so that might be the answer. Beagles existed for centuries as hound dogs they were first mentioned in 1475 as part of the hunting parties. It was in the middle of 19th century when Reverend Phillip Honeywood established Beagle pack and set up the standard for modern Beagles.

Do dogs have sense of time?

The answer is yes. Have you noticed how your dog gets excited when you return to your home? It seems that they are equally excited when you return after 5 minutes and after 5 hours. But their happiness and excitement isn't happening because they lack a sense of time, it's because they were feeling lonely and they like the presence of people especially their owners. They enjoy people`s company. And have you noticed the same thing when you wake up? They get all excited again although you are right next to them. Other fact that they are aware of time is that dogs usually signalize their owners when it's time for them to go out, eat and etc. There are many dog owners who will confirm this by saying "my dog knows the exact hour when it's time for eating". Dogs do have sense of time, so next time when you get back home and your dog jumps around you should know it's because of its love not because of the passed time!
