GOLDEN RETRIEVER



The Golden Retriever is a medium-sized breed of dog. They belong to the group of Retriever dogs and their name derives from their color. Their country of origin is Great Britain. Golden Retrievers possess great intelligence and so as other Retriever type of dogs they love water.

Characteristics


Golden Retrievers appearance is symmetric and strong. They are also very active and obedient. Their head is proportional to their body and have strong jaw. Their muscular and proportional neck is connected with their balanced body. Golden Retrievers chest are very strongly developed. They walk powerful and easy. Golden Retrievers have double coat and usually long hair (although medium-sized hair does occur on some dogs). They have golden or cream color ( variety of these colors). Easy going, intelligent, quiet but active describe Golden Retrievers temperament. Their height is 51 - 61 centimeters (20 - 24 inches) and their weight 27 - 34 kilos ( 60 -75 lbs). The have life span of around 11 - 13 years.

History


Golden Retrievers appeared as a different breed in the late 19 century. They were a good substitute for the Setters in some of the hunting duties.  Golden Retrievers were recognized by The Kennel Club of England in 1903. There are three sub types of this dog breed with slight differences: English type, American type and Canadian type.
