YORKSHIRE TERRIER



Yorkshire Terrier is a small-sized dog breed that originates from Yorkshire, England. It is one of the types of Terrier dogs. Although originally used for catching rats in homes, nowadays it is a popular family dog. It is one of the most popular dog breeds today.

Characteristics


Yorkshire Terrier dogs are small but very dignified breed. The body is tiny but very proportional, it is very strong compared to their size. The head is small covered with long hair and a black mask. Yorkshire Terrier dog has a strong neck, well placed on its shoulders that gives an impression of elegance. It walks elegantly. Yorkshire Terrier dogs have only one coat so they don't molt so often like the dogs with double coats. Other advantage of this type of their hair and coat is that people who are allergic to dogs won't have such problems with them. There is one standard mixture of colors for Yorkshire Terriers and that is blue and tan. Yorkshire Terrier dogs weigh from 4 lb to 7 lb ( 2 kg - 3.2 kg) and have a height around 6 - 7 inches (15 - 17.5 centimeters). A typical Yorkshire Terrier is always ready to move, playful, vital and temperamental. Life span varies from 13 - 16 years.

History


Obviously the Yorkshire Terrier dog got his name from the region of Yorkshire, Northern England. They were used in 19 century wool and cotton mills throughout England, after their success in guarding the stock from rodents. Yorkshire Terrier dogs were recognized as breed by the English Kennel Club in 1886. Yorkshire Terrier dogs nickname is Yorkie.
