PUG



The Pug is a small-sized breed of dog, that has origin from China. They belong to the so-called toy dog type of dogs and are known for many health problems, but those problems can be easily forgotten just by one look on their cute faces.


Characteristics


Pugs have small but very compact bodies. They have large heads and large eyes. Their neck is short but strong.  Pugs have several colors: black, silver, apricot fawn, fawn and brindle. The mask is usually black. Their height is around 10 inches -14 inches ( 25 - 35.5 centimeters), and weigh around 13 - 20 lb ( 6 - 9 kg). Pugs have smooth coat and short hair. They have several health problems including sensitive teeth ( taking care of their teeth should be practice from the beginning while they are still young), necrotizing meningoencephalitis and obesity. Stability, playful, active, good with kids, are some of the mental characteristics of this cute breed.

History


Pugs just like Pekingeses are one of the oldest breeds and dates back 2000 years ago. In China they were mentioned in texts centuries ago residing usually in Buddhist Monasteries (Vihara).As early as 16th centuries the breed was popularized in Europe mainly in royal families, most popular among the House of Orange the Dutch royal dynasty. Pugs are also known as MOPS in Germany and Eastern Europe and Carlin in France. The Kennel Club recognized Pugs in 1877.
